It’s a Perfect Match: Our Own Belle Glade Medical Assistant Matches with Our Family Medicine Residency Program

Anastasia Albu standing and receiving applause for being matched as the new Family Medicine Resident

One of our own medical assistants at the Belle Glade community health center, Anastasia Albu, recently matched with our Lakeside Family Medicine Residency Program. Anastasia will join the residency program in July 2023 (class of 2026).

Anastasia Albu’s path to the Lakeside Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program has woven through three countries. Born in Moldova, Anastasia moved to Romania when she was 15 to complete high school and later her medical school and medical residency at the Universitatea de Vest „Vasile Goldiș” din Arad. After her residency, she practiced as a general surgeon for a year at a small community hospital in Romania before moving to the United States to be closer to her parents, brother and other family, who had moved to South Florida.

Anastasia has worked as a medical assistant at health care centers in South Florida for five years. She joined the Health Care District’s Belle Glade community health center in June 2022 and has honed her skills while providing patient care to residents in the Glades region. When applying to residency programs to expand her medical career in the United States, she realized the perfect fit was with the community she was already serving.

“I researched residency programs in South Florida to learn more about the community and population and this will be a perfect match,” said Anastasia about the Lakeside Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program. “It provides a very full feeling to care for underserved populations. I’m looking forward to being in this program in this community.”

When not treating patients, the Royal Palm Beach resident enjoys spending time with her family and participating in all the outdoor activities that Florida has to offer including gardening, biking, kayaking and tennis. She likes playing the piano as her family members sing along. As a dog and cat lover, she has also participated in dog shows in Romania and hopes to resume showing dogs in the United States.

The Lakeside Medical Center Family Medicine Residency is a three-year, ACGME-accredited program with five residency positions open each year. Residents care for patients of all ages at the Health Care District’s teaching hospital, Lakeside Medical Center, and at the adjoining Federally Qualified Health Center.
