About the Health Care District
The Health Care District of Palm Beach County is a special taxpayer-funded district that has served as a healthcare safety net for more than 35 years to fill in gaps in access to healthcare services. This unique healthcare system covers the entire county and provides diverse services such as:
- 13 outpatient community health centers (Federally Qualified Health Centers) which provide comprehensive care to all, regardless of a patient's ability to pay
- School health clinicians staffed in more than 170 Palm Beach County public schools
- A lifesaving aeromedical program with two FAA-certified Trauma Hawk helicopters
- Rural, public teaching hospital in Belle Glade, Lakeside Medical Center
- Award-winning skilled nursing center in Riviera Beach, providing short-term rehab and long-term care for residents in need
- Ground ambulance transportation program for Health Care District patients needing higher level of care
- Specialty benefits program for eligible, uninsured residents
- The county’s Trauma Agency, which ensures quality and positive patient outcomes within the county’s trauma system and leads initiatives to prevent traumatic injury
