Health Care District’s Director of Pharmacy Services Receives Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award

The Health Care District of Palm Beach County’s Pharmacy Services Director, Hyla H. Fritsch, PharmD, CPh, was awarded a 2017 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award by Nova Southeastern University at its annual award ceremony in Davie on November 9th, 2017. The award is the highest and most prestigious honor that NSU bestows upon its graduates.

“For me, this award is very special,” said Dr. Fritsch, who was accompanied by her husband Fred. “I try to advocate for Public Health education in pharmacy school curriculums and I am honored to be recognized for my role professionally and in the community. It makes me proud to be part of something so much bigger than myself that touches so many lives in such a positive way. While I appreciate the personal recognition, the acknowledgment for my professional accomplishments is especially meaningful.”

At the Health Care District, Dr. Fritsch oversees eight pharmacy sites throughout the county which fill prescriptions for uninsured residents, patients of the C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics, District Cares’ members, Trauma patients and Ryan White patients. The Health Care District fills and dispenses over 232,000 prescriptions each fiscal year.

“I congratulate Dr. Hyla Fritsch on this well-deserved honor from Nova Southeastern University,” said Christopher F. Irizarry, MPA, Vice President and Executive Director of Clinic Services for the Health Care District of Palm Beach County. “Dr. Fritsch’s leadership is an asset to our public health care system and the community we serve.”

Dr. Fritsch graduated from NSU’s College of Pharmacy in 2006 and joined the Health Care District the same year. She serves as a preceptor for NSU pharmacy students and volunteers her time to speak to NSU students about non-retail career opportunities in the pharmacy field. Presenting the award to Dr. Fritsch, one of 14 honorees at the awards luncheon, were Dr. Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Vice President of Advancement and Community Relations at NSU, Dr. Lisa Deziel, Dean of NSU’s College of Pharmacy and Dr. George Hanbury, President and CEO of NSU.

“There are many ways to determine the value of a university,” said Dr. Hanbury. “I believe that one of the most important ways is by what our graduates bring to the communities across the country and around the world after graduation. These honorees make NSU proud!”
