Lakeside Medical Center to Graduate 9th Class of Family Medicine Residents

Five physicians in Lakeside Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency Program are graduating in a virtual ceremony Friday, June 25th at 4 p.m. following three years of intense training during an unprecedented time in healthcare.  The teaching hospital is located in the heart of Palm Beach County’s rural, western communities, which in 2020 was considered a hot spot for COVID-19.
“I commend this class of residents for their dedication to our hospital’s patients while serving on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Darcy J. Davis, CEO of the Health Care District of Palm Beach County. “Their commitment and care have helped improve the health of the Glades community,”

The graduates, John D. Adame, DO, Quanecia Beasley, DO, Sonya Dusseault, DO, and Chief Residents Christal Landeros, DO and Kerlan St. Prix, DO, completed a rigorous three-year curriculum. Their rotations included emergency medicine, critical care, women’s health, behavioral health, general surgery, inpatient, outpatient and community medicine, musculoskeletal and sports medicine, cardiology, geriatrics, and pediatrics. 

“I have had the enormous pleasure of sharing the journey of these fine physicians,” said Seneca Harberger, MD, Family Medicine Residency Program Director at Lakeside Medical Center. “They’ve been through a lot of extra trials and have truly found ways to learn and grow from all of them. I’m proud to know them and look forward to all the great work I’m sure they will do for their patients.” 

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. Over the course of their residency training, the physicians provide access to a range of quality services for their patients, many of whom have complex medical conditions and limited resources. 

“It’s definitely been challenging with COVID, but I think being in a small rural hospital made it a better learning environment,” said graduating Co-Chief Resident Christal Landeros, DO, who gave birth to her first child during the pandemic.  “I really appreciate the camaraderie between the staff, faculty, attendings, and fellow residents.  We are always there to help each other out.” 

The Family Medicine Residency Program has a total of 15 residents and is funded by a grant from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. The program’s academic and community partners include Nova Southeastern University, Florida Atlantic University and the Florida Department of Health for Palm Beach County. 

In 2020, the residency program was accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), a distinction that assures Lakeside Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency Program meets the quality standards of the specialty or subspecialty practices for which it prepares its graduates.
