Lakeside Medical Center’s Administrator Discusses Hospital Initiatives and Opportunities at Glades Community Forum
Lakeside Medical Center Hospital Administrator Janet D. Moreland, ARNP, MSN, LHRM discussed career opportunities and new hospital initiatives at the November 14th community forum, “Strengthening Communities for the Future: Economic Development of the Glades Area.” Government and community leaders attended the forum, which was hosted by Palm Beach State College’s Belle Glade campus and was held at the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center.
Ms. Moreland, who grew up in the Glades, shared that the acute-care teaching facility in Belle Glade is one of the area’s largest employers with over 300 employees. She touched on career opportunities for newly graduated registered nurses, current job openings at the hospital as well as at the Health Care District of Palm Beach County, the public health care system that owns and operates the 70-bed hospital. Ms. Moreland also talked about exploring a partnership with West Technical Educational Center for a phlebotomy program.
In addition, Ms. Moreland discussed this month’s relocation and grand opening of the C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics’ Belle Glade Clinic within the hospital. The clinic provides adult and pediatric patients with one-stop-shopping for medical, dental, behavioral health and soon pharmacy services as well. The clinic serves all patients regardless of ability to pay and offers patients a sliding fee scale.
Also attending the forum were Karen A. Harris, Vice President of Field Operations for the Health Care District; Eddie Rhodes, Lakeside Health Advisory Board member; Dr. LaTanya McNeal, Executive Dean of the Palm Beach State College Belle Glade campus and new Lakeside Health Advisory Board appointee; and Tammy Jackson-Moore, Palm Beach County Commission appointee to the Health Care District’s Board of Commissioners.
Forum panelists also included Steven Cornette from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County; Angela Avery-Moore, Glades Region Superintendent, School District of Palm Beach County; Charles Duval, Assistant Vice President with Career Source of Palm Beach County and Terry Burroughs with the Florida Heartland Economic Region of Opportunity. The panel discussion was moderated by Shereena Coleman, Vice President of Business Facilitation and the Glades Region for the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County.
