Health Care District Board Honors Commissioner Philip H. Ward, III

The Health Care District of Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners honored Philip H. Ward, III at its public Board meeting Tuesday, September 25th, 2018 where they presented the outgoing Commissioner with a plaque recognizing his seven years of leadership as he completes his second and final consecutive volunteer term on the Board.

“We honor Commissioner Ward for his dedication to the efficient operation of our unique and diverse public health care system,” said Commissioner Brian R. Lohmann, Chair of the Health Care District Board. “His tenure is highlighted by his commitment to responsible financial stewardship of our safety net programs.”

Mr. Ward was appointed to the Health Care District Board by Florida Governor Rick Scott in October 2011 and was re-appointed in May 2016. He served as Board Chair from 2015 to 2018. During his two terms of service, Mr. Ward also served on the District’s Quality Patient Safety and Compliance Committee, Finance Committee, Construction Oversight Committee, and the Aircraft Fleet Replacement Committee.

“It was an honor to serve as a member of the Health Care District Board,” said Mr. Ward. “I have to say the Board members in the past and the present have been wonderful people to work with and we accomplished a lot through a collective effort. I was very happy to be a part of it.”

Mr. Ward is president and managing partner of Ward Damon, a multi-disciplined law firm that he co-founded in 1987. He is Chair of the county’s Infrastructure Surtax Independent Citizen Oversight Committee, the Vice Chair and member of the Board of Trustees of BIZPAC, former Chair of the Palm Beach Business Development Board, as well as a member of the Economic Council of Palm Beach County.

“The Health Care District is grateful to Commissioner Ward for his service, guidance and expertise in governance, law and finance,” said Darcy J. Davis, Health Care District Chief Executive Officer. “I thank him for his advocacy on behalf of the taxpayers and his commitment to providing quality and lifesaving health care in our community.”

The Health Care District is governed by a seven-member Board. Three are appointed by the Governor of the State of Florida: Philip H. Ward, III, Nancy C. Banner, Esq., Vice Chair and Leslie B. Daniels. Three are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners: Brian R. Lohmann, Chair, Sean O’Bannon, Secretary and Cory Neering. The seventh member is the Director of the State’s Department of Health for Palm Beach County, Alina M. Alonso, MD.
