Health Care District Board Welcomes Newest Member and Honors Outgoing Finance Comittee and Hospital Board Members
Edward G. Sabin of Tequesta is the newest Commissioner appointed to the Board of the Health Care District of Palm Beach County. Mr. Sabin is Chief Operating Officer of Southern Implants North America, Inc.
“I look forward to working closely with fellow board members as well as the leadership and staff of the Health Care District,” said Mr. Sabin. “For 30 years, the District has been providing a health care safety net to the citizens of Palm Beach County and I am grateful to be a part of the District’s ongoing mission.”
“Mr. Sabin’s financial expertise will be a tremendous asset to our board,” said Commission Chair Brian Lohmann who conducted Commissioner Sabin’s swearing in ceremony at the Board’s public meeting on November 27, 2018. “Our goal is to meet community needs by providing high quality care both safely and efficiently.”
The Board appointed Commissioner Sabin, who is a Certified Public Accountant, to serve as Chair of the Finance Committee. Commissioner Sabin serves on the Florida Atlantic University Foundation Executive Committee and is its Investment Committee Chair. He also is Chair of the Village of Tequesta’s Public Safety Pension Board. Commissioner Sabin received a master of business administration from the University of Central Florida and his bachelor of science in accounting from Florida State University.
“As a volunteer member of our Finance Committee, Mr. Sabin demonstrated a deep understanding of not only the District’s finances but the importance of being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars,” said the District’s Chief Executive Officer Darcy J. Davis. “His guidance will be invaluable.”
Florida Governor Rick Scott appointed Commissioner Sabin to a four-year term that began October 5, 2018 and ends September 30, 2022. He replaces Commissioner Philip H. Ward III, whose term expired. Other Board members are Nancy C. Banner, Esq., Vice Chair, Sean O’Bannon, Secretary, Leslie B. Daniels, Cory Neering, and Alina M. Alonso, MD, Director of the Florida Department of Health for Palm Beach County.
The Health Care District Board meeting was held jointly with the Lakeside Health Advisory Board, which guides the District’s rural, acute-care teaching hospital in Belle Glade. Commissioner Lohmann recognized two outgoing Lakeside Health Advisory Board members, Donia Roberts, Esq., former Chair, and Angela K. Pope, for their respective eight years of dedicated, volunteer service and leadership.
“This is bittersweet,” said Ms. Roberts. “My heart is in the Glades and the people we serve on a regular basis as a part of this awesome safety net organization.”
At the Finance Committee meeting earlier in the day, Commissioner Lohmann recognized R. Michael Smith, outgoing Finance Committee member, for his eight years of volunteer service and commitment.
“It’s been a pleasure to serve,” said Mr. Smith. “I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been both educational and stimulating.”
