Valerie Shahriari, General Counsel
Valerie Shahriari, Esq. is the General Counsel of the Health Care District of Palm Beach County and its subsidiary operations. The Health Care District is a diverse health care system encompassing a nationally-recognized trauma system, a skilled nursing facility, a rural public hospital, school-based health clinics, pharmacies, primary care and dental clinics and health coverage for the uninsured. Ms. Shahriari was named General Counsel in August 2016.
Attorney Valerie Shahriari has extensive clinical experience from her background as a surgical nurse and hospital risk manager. Ms. Shahriari was the Patient Safety Officer and Director of Risk Management for IU Health (formerly known as Clarian Health Partners) in Indianapolis, Ind. The patient safety efforts and endeavors implemented under Valerie’s direction received national recognition after a tragic medication event occurred at the hospital.
Valerie left the hospital and spent many years in the Medicaid and Medicare Advantage industry engaged in such pertinent responsibilities as Corporate Director of Provider Value Based Compensation Models and Programs and also Corporate Director of Integration Implementation for Amerihealth Caritas. This invaluable knowledge and experience was then transitioned to representing healthcare providers in Florida at local law firms.
Valerie graduated from Indiana University School of Law in 2001. She is admitted to practice law in the State of Florida and is a past board member of the Indiana Society for Healthcare Risk Management. She was also an ASHRM member from 2006-2011, ISHRM from 2006-2009 and held membership with both the Indiana and Minnesota State Nurses Associations.
