C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics Receive $1 million HRSA Grant Award for Dental Expansion

The C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics, Federally Qualified Health Centers that are owned and operated by the Health Care District of Palm Beach County, have been awarded a $1 million grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to expand its downtown Belle Glade Clinic site to include dental services for the community.

The Brumback Clinics are one of only 12 health centers in the state of Florida to receive this grant.

Currently, the Brumback Clinics offer dental services at the Florida Department of Health Palm Beach County’s health center in Belle Glade, which is located approximately five miles away from the downtown clinic. Transportation is a challenge for many who live in the rural, agricultural region bordering Lake Okeechobee known as the Glades, including a large migrant population.

The grant funding will enable the downtown medical clinic to expand its physical space so a greater number of patients, many of whom are uninsured, can receive both primary medical care and general and preventive dental services in one location.

On May 4, HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell announced over $260 million in funding to 290 health centers in 45 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico for facility renovation, expansion, or construction. Health centers like the Brumback Clinics will use this funding to increase their patient capacity and to provide additional comprehensive primary and preventive health services to medically underserved populations.

These awards will allow health centers to renovate or acquire new health center clinical space to help provide care to over 800,000 new patients nationwide.
