Lakeside Medical Center has a Respiratory Care program that “helps the western Glades to breathe easier.”
Respiratory therapy is for patients who have trouble breathing. In South Florida, our hot and humid weather can sometimes cause health problems. Other patients are born with respiratory problems and need treatment to manage a chronic medical condition. Diagnosis like asthma, emphysema and allergies are just a few conditions that can result in breathing problems. Also, serious illnesses like cancer, heart attack and stroke often require breathing supports.
A respiratory therapist may:
Test to measure lung capacity
Help remove mucus from airways
Give patients medication to clear airways
Teach patients how to use treatments
Our hospital offers care to newborns, school-aged children, teens, adults and the elderly.
