The Health Care District of Palm Beach County ensures access to a comprehensive healthcare system for all Palm Beach County residents by providing lifesaving trauma services and health coverage for uninsured residents.
The Health Care District is also a leader in children’s health, employing over 200 school nurses who keep Palm Beach County’s public school students healthy and ready to learn. Palm Beach County is the largest school district in the nation to have a dedicated nurse in more than 170 public schools and serves as a model for other school health programs.
Additionally, the District’s team of Behavioral Health Professionals works in 46 public elementary schools to address students’ behavioral and emotional issues.
The Health Care District operates the Edward J. Healey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for Palm Beach County residents who require long-term skilled nursing care.
Glades General Hospital, a not-for-profit subsidiary of the Health Care District, is a 73-bed JCAHO accredited acute care hospital that provides a 24-hour physician staffed emergency room and a full-range of inpatient and out-patient services in western Palm Beach County.
Glades General Hospital is Palm Beach County’s only public hospital, providing quality care to 3,600 inpatients a year. The Health Care District has pledged $53 million to build a new, centrally-located, state-of-the-art regional hospital for residents in the Lake Okeechobee region.
Some of our contributions to a healthier and safer community in Palm Beach County, Florida include the following:
30,000 residents have access to basic health care services they could not otherwise afford. 3,000 trauma victims receive life saving critical care in the Golden Hour. 170,000 children in public schools have access to health care services. 50,000 children in public schools and child care centers have access to behavioral health screenings and interventions.
